A shadow teacher also called as learning support assistant is an educational assistant who works directly with a single special needs child. Shadow teachers are extensively trained to help the student interact with others, assist with the child's school work, instill responsibility, foster independence and encourage learning. A shadow teacher's services are very beneficial and can increase the child's quality of learning and overall classroom experience.
What are the benefits of a Shadow Teacher?
For the child: Behavior management, Social interaction and communication enhancement, Independence and character building, Educational enrichment
For the parents: Shadow teachers act as the parent's extension in school through the guidance and support they provide the child in school. Parents will be able to monitor their child's performance and activities in school through daily communication with the shadow teacher. Sense of security for the parents as their child is being accompanied by an adult.
For the school: Through a collaborative effort to meet the special needs of the child. Aid in curriculum planning, modification and implementation of specific programs.
